Neubichler Alm, Bavaria - Summer 2007
Wednesday:
We arrived mid morning in Neubichler Alm, just outside of Piding overlooking Salzburg, Austria. We did the general check-in activities and unpacked our luggage. We had the most wonderful view from our balcony overlooking Salzburg. We could also see the airport and watch the planes take off and land.  It was a very nice hotel.

In the afternoon we did a small hike down the hill to a small church across the valley. It was a nice sunny day and Lea really enjoyed the walk as well. They have many trails to hike which vary in length and complexity (effort), maps are available at the reception.

Thursday:
In the morning we drove to Thumsee, which is a little south from our hotel near Karlstein, it took about 25-30 minutes. Parking was a little hassle but once we got going it was a very nice place. There is a nice path around the lake, nice enough so that we could use the baby stroller and give dad a break on the shoulders. The walk took about 2 hours and was enjoyable.

We drove again south in the afternoon to Berchtesgaden which was about 1.5 hours away from Neubichler Alm. It is a very nice drive and a beautiful place.  We visited the Kehlsteinhaus (Eagles Nest) which was built during the second world war in the late 1930's early 1940's. You are required to park at the bottom of the mountain and purchase a bus ticket to the elevator that will take you up to the house. The elevator is built inside of the mountain, it was a beautiful elevator made out of brass. We also walked a few 100 meters/yards to the top of the hill which provided some nice views to the Königsee.

Instead of riding the elevator down we decided to walk down to the busses. It took about 20-25 minutes it was all downhill so required minimal effort. There were some nice scenery points along the way and would recommend this decent versus the elevator.

Friday:
We drove again south in the morning to Berchtesgaden and to the Königsee. Between the parking lot and Königsee exists a touristy area with some souvenir shops and restaurants.  It is nice.  We decided to do a 4 kilometer hike (about 2.5 miles) around part of the Königsee. About a quarter of the way through the hike there is a beautiful view point that overlooks the lake and you can see the St. Batholomä Church.  We returned to the hotel and had a nice relaxing afternoon at the hotel.

Lea played with the goats and rabbits they had running around the hotel.

Saturday:
On our last day we checked out around 11:00am and went for another walk around the hotel. The trail was about 4-5 kilometers (2.5-3 miles) and had some nice scenery. Lea lasted for about 20 minutes until she fell asleep, up until them she liked holding some sticks and branches in her hand and tickling the back of my neck. We both laughed about it and made some great personal connections.

After the hike, Andrea and I had a nice Weiss bier and Lea had some rice cakes and baby tea on the terrace overlooking the countryside. The drive back to Munich took about 2 hours.

It was a wonderful time spending with my wife and daughter. The more time I spend with them the more I love them and I look forward to many more experiences like this with them.
