It was a short drive from Munich to Gerlos, about 2 hours or so. There
was still a little snow on the ground in Munich when we left and much more
when we arrived in Gerlos. We stayed in
Hotel Almhof. It is a fantastic
hotel, all inclusive and focused towards families with young children. Our
first day we really just checked in, swam in the indoor pool and had a nice
meal. Overnight it snowed about 2-3 feet. It was totally white from that
point on during our trip. We decided to go on a sled ride. They have a
really nice one,
Gerlossteinbahn which is 7 kilometers (4.3 miles) long. The weather was
not so good, but we went anyway. About 1/3 of the way down, Lea started
getting a little cold. About 2/3 of the way down Lea was very, very cold and
we were urgently moving down the hill. Since the snow was fresh, we did not
move very easily along. We ended up walking a lot of the way down. Since Lea
was so cold, I got to carry her too. Finally we made it to the end, at the
end the slope it pretty steep and the sled slipped out of Anne's hand and it
zoomed about 150 meters down the hill going about 30 miles per hour.
Thankfully, no one was below us and thankfully Lea was in my arms. The sled
slammed into the wall. Lea's hands and feet were pink and she was crying. We
really learned some stuff on this ride. She needs double socks, better shoes
and thicker jacket, plus keep her feet up so the snow doesn't cover her
shoes and get into her socks. Lea loved the other times we went sledding in
Söll, but this time was longer, the weather wasn't as good and we didn't
bundle her up good enough. We learn and thankfully, 20 minutes later she was
back to normal. A nice swim in the warm pool was really nice after that
experience. Another nice meal, some
Pippi Longstocking
on the TV for Lea and that was the end of the day and trip. It was a
short one, but a good one none the less. Looking forward to the next
adventure. |
