A short history of Benjamin D. and Andrea Perkins

It all started in June 1990.  I was at an open air concert in Schwingen, Germany when a beautiful blonde German girl bumped into me.  We looked at each other and smiled.  From that moment I knew she would be my wife and the one for me.  This site is dedicated to the life we have spent together so far and will be updated with the great experiences we will have together in the future.

After our first meeting at the open air concert we met many more times on weekends until December 12, 1990 when I and my US Army unit, 1/ 2 Armored Calvary Regiment, were deployed to Saudi Arabia as part of Operation Desert Shield/Storm.

I returned 8 months later in July 1991, quickly returning to Schwingen in hopes of finding her again.  Every weekend I would ask her friends to tell her I was back and wanted to meet again, until finally, we met and feel deeply in love.  My military service was ending on August 10, 1991, a single month after I returned from Kuwait.

Our parting was not an easy one.  I returned to America and started my university studies at Tarleton State University on August 15, 1991 in Stephenville, Texas.  We remained in contact over the telephone and built a relationship.  She visited me in the summers and I visited her in the winter.  Needless to say, our phone bill was astronomical, because this took place in the early 90’s which was before the internet and before email, chat and video conferencing was main-stream.

In the fall of 1991 she packed most of her belongings and moved to join me in Stephenville.  We had a great time together, after what seemed like an eternity apart, we were finally a couple spending every moment together.

In the spring of 1992 we moved to Bryan / College Station to attend Texas A&M University.  I was a Management major and she was majoring in French. Shortly after my father bought us a Gateway 2000 desktop 486/33Mhz with 16MB memory running Microsoft 3.11, I quickly changed my major to Management Information Systems, two semesters, later so did Andrea.

On July 15, 1995 we married in Rugendorf, Germany.

In December 1995, I graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management Information Systems and started my first professional job with Severn Trent Systems in Houston, TX in January of 1996.

In May of 1996, after only 3 and ½ years of study, Andrea graduated with the same degree as me but with a 4.0 grade point average.  She was recruited by many companies but decided to take the job offered from Compaq Computer Corporation, also in Houston, TX.  The following year in May of 1997 I was hired by Compaq Computer Corporation, too.

We worked happily in Houston for another 3 years until an opportunity to relocate to Munich, Germany occurred.  We jumped at the chance and in February of 2000, here we are after 14 years, back in Germany living and enjoying life.

I hope you enjoy the site.  Come back often!
