Metallica / Machine Head / The Sword

Since the last time I saw Metallica at Rock Am Ring 2008, I didn't really think I would go see them again, having already seen the 4 times over the years. When I saw they were touring with Machine Head, I decided to get a ticket. I am glad I did. The Sword opened the show. They were pretty good, the sound for opening bands are notoriously bad, their sound was no exception. I had listened to their music a bit before the show and particularly liked the song - Fire Lances Of The Ancient Hyperzephyrians. Machine Head really rocked. I wore my Machine Head tee-shirt I got at the Black Crusade Tour in 2007. There were a few other Machine Head supporters there. I could tell, part way through the show that there are differences between the fans of Metallica and Machine Head. There wasn't much moshing or rocking for Machine Head, had they been headlining, like at the Black Crusade show, it would have been different. They were awesome. I had good seats, but didn't sit during Metallica at all. They came out and rocked. It was a smallish venue and I could see them well and the sound was great. They played all the songs that I wanted to hear and were running around the stage like true performers. I am glad I went to the show, but am not sure if I will attend another one of their performances.  It's not because their current music is so different than their old, it's because I am different. Keep rockin' Metallica.
