| In November 1990 my unit was deployed to Saudi Arabia. I was lucky enough to have saved some extra money to buy supplies at the supply store prior to departure, because once pay-day came everything was gone, socks, underwear, everything. I went back to the store to get an extra t-shirt and there was nothing left, really nothing, not even shoe laces. It is always a good idea to have a little stashed away. We got on the bus that took us to the Air Force base in Frankfurt, Germany that flew us to Rome, Italy to refuel and then to Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. It was winter in Germany when we left I was wearing long underwear and extra heavy jackets. When we got off the plane, as you could imagine, it was extremely hot. Most of us had been dressed for winter so the first activity once we landed was to change our clothes. <-- Operation Desert Shield Stories --> Coming Soon! <-- Operation Desert Storm Stories --> <-- Final Days in Army Stories --> Coming Soon! |
